Exporting to CCH® ProSystem fx® Planning

You can export data from a tax return to Planning. This option is only available when an Individual return is open and Planning is installed on your system. You can export data from your federal return and your resident state return. This feature is available only in Tax version 2012-3.4.1 and later. You also must have Planning version 2013.01000 or later installed to use this feature.

Tip: If you export data from the same return to Planning more than once, each export creates a separate Planning file. This feature allows you to generate different Planning scenarios based on the same tax return data.

To export a return to Planning, do the following:

  1. Open an Individual return.
  2. Select the Planning Closedexport option to use in the Planning export method box on the General > Return Options > Processing Options worksheet.
    • 1 - Plan begins with current tax year. Use this option when input in Tax is compatible with Planning for export purposes. Option 1 exports all current-year data to the current-year column in Planning. All resulting carryover items are automatically carried from the current-year column to the next-year column. The system uses this option by default if you do not select an option.
    • 2 - Plan begins with following tax year (recurring items and carryover amounts.). Use this option when Tax data is not compatible with Planning. The following items could be incompatible:
      • Most government form line overrides.
      • Self-employment income overrides.
      • Non-aggregated real estate professional activities.

When exporting returns with this type of data to the current-year column in Planning, the current-year calculation results and corresponding carryover items to the next year are inconsistent with current-year results. We recommend eliminating the current-year column in Planning and exporting directly to the next year.

  3. Calculate the return.
  4. Select Planning in the Export group on the Import / Export tab.
  5. When the export is completed, you can do any of the following as needed:
    • Click Details to view the detail log.
    • Click Print to send the export log summary to the printer.
    • Click Copy to send the export log summary to the clipboard so you can paste it into another application.
  6. To complete the export and launch Planning, do one of the following:
    • Click Launch Planning to exit the wizard and open Planning.
    • If you have multiple installations of Planning, click Next. Then, select the Planning installation type you want to send the exported data to. The wizard closes, and the version of Planning you selected opens.
